Description

About us

Since 1986, Benmax has designed, built, manufactured and maintained the mechanical services and HVAC systems behind some of Australia’s most significant buildings. We started with a clear vision: do the right thing, deliver quality, and treat people like family. That vision has grown, and the heart of the company remains the same.

Today we’re building the future of Australia’s AI data centres too. Our in-house fabrication team manufactures and delivers advanced liquid cooling systems for AI infrastructure, and this program is now one of the fastest-growing in the country, running alongside our established construction, service and manufacturing operations.

We’re looking for a Head of Finance to run the engine room of a business scaling fast on every front.

About the Role

You’ll be based at our Hume, ACT office and report directly to the CFO. In this role, you’ll own management reporting, budgeting and forecasting, project and manufacturing finance, payroll oversight, and audit and compliance across the Benmax group. You’ll lead the finance team and run the function day to day, so the CFO can stay focused on direction and strategy.

This is a hands-on role. You’ll move between the detail of project cost accounting and the discipline of group-level reporting, building the systems, cadence and team that keep our numbers ahead of our growth. Finance systems work sits high on the near-term roadmap, and as our AI infrastructure program expands across Asia Pacific, you’ll take on financial modelling for international operations too.

What You’ll Do

Financial Leadership and Reporting

  • Own monthly reporting and the rolling forecast across all entities
  • Run the annual budget cycle, with reforecasts through the year
  • Deliver a disciplined month-end close for the CFO and leadership team
  • Build reporting for our AI infrastructure program: profitability, cost-to-complete, cash and margin
  • Model international operations as the program expands, working with external advisors on tax and structuring

Project and Manufacturing Finance

  • Oversee project accounting across our construction and manufacturing portfolio
  • Own AASB 15 revenue recognition for long-term contracts and manufacturing arrangements
  • Partner with project directors and fabrication on cost control and procurement as volumes scale

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop the finance team across accounting, project finance, payroll and accounts
  • Set priorities, coach for growth, and build capability ahead of the curve

Payroll, Audit and Compliance

  • Oversee payroll, including award compliance and Payday Super
  • Lead the annual audit, owning workpapers and technical positions
  • Coordinate tax compliance (BAS, FBT, payroll tax) with external advisors

Systems and Process

  • Lead system integration across AP, AR, payroll, accounting and inventory
  • Drive process improvement as the business scales

Cash and Working Capital

  • Own cashflow forecasting and working capital, including bank guarantees
  • Oversee debtor management and collections

About you

  • CA or CPA qualified, with 10+ years’ post-qualification experience including senior finance leadership
  • A project accounting expert, with deep experience in construction, engineering, manufacturing or infrastructure (WIP, percentage of completion, claims and retentions)
  • Technically strong, particularly on AASB 15 revenue recognition for long-term and manufacturing contracts
  • A proven team leader, with a track record of building and developing finance teams through growth
  • Systems-savvy, having led or played a senior role in finance systems implementation or integration
  • A hands-on operator, comfortable in the detail, strong in Excel, and pragmatic in fast-moving environments

Desirable:

  • Procore experience
  • Exposure to manufacturing or supply chain costing, inventory and SKU-level cost management
  • Experience in rapidly scaling businesses (revenue doubling or better)
